My name is Marc.
I was was diagnosed with Stage 3 Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC) in the throat about mid 2013.
I then went through several minor operations and a major neck dissection surgery, followed by radio-chemotherapy treatment.
This was a very hard time for me (I am still dealing with the side effects) and I appreciated everything that the Cancer Society and it volunteers did to aid me during this difficult time. I wish to make use of the second chance I have been given and I would like to attempt to give back a little if I can.
I build steel model remote control cars and trucks as a hobby and I would like to use this skill as a means to fundraise for the Cancer Society. The charity build will be based on a Rat Rod, this is why my campaign is called "Rust Never Sleeps", it will be auctioned off, most probably on ebay. The full proceeds will be going to the Cancer Society here in New Zealand.
I will set the reserve on the charity auction to the cost of the parts I purchase to make the car ( http://www.steelrats.com/rust-never-sleeps-parts-list.html ) with the idea that for each dollar donated through this page I will deduct a dollar from the auction reserve (Please Note: A donation is not a bid on the auction). I see this a win / win situation, the Cancer Society gets much needed financial aid and the charity auction reserve price is reduced with each donation (until we reach $0 on the reserve).
My channel on YouTube is where I will be promoting the charity build and auction and I will also update this page as the model build progresses.
I really hope people get involved and this becomes a celebration of life as well as giving to a good cause.
Thank You for your time.
